Description : Oil on canvas painting of the three masted barque Talisman sailing right to left in frame. Ship has a black body and white sails. Most of the sails are set with red ensign flying on mizzen mast. Name plate visible on bow and again mid ship side. To the right of the stern, land is visible in the background with buildings. Ten men are aboard at various places on deck. Child is on deck behind captain (?) at the wheel and a woman is visible in the doorway of the deckhouse.
Commentaires : The Talisman was built in Beaver River, Nova Scotia by George Jenkins-Jenkins & Crosby for Dennis and Doane and Others in 1872. Registered at 953 tonnage and at the time of her launch Captain A. Baker was at the helm. She was lost off the Dutch Coast in December of 1895. All crew perished.
Fonctions : Hung in the home of the donor's parents while she was growing up.
