Description : Prince Edward Island Highlanders uniform including jacket, kilt, sporran and Glengarry hat. The jacket is green with brass buttons and a crest on each arm. Underneath the crest on the right arm are four red chevrons and one white chevron. Underneath the jacket is a brown shirt and tie. The kilt is a green and navy-coloured tartan, and the sporran consists of white horsehair with five black horsehair tassels overtop. The Glengarry hat is black with the PEI Highlanders badge pinned on the left side.
Commentaires : This uniform was originally owned and worn by Fred Semple, a member of the Prince Edward Island Highlanders. The tartan pattern on the kilt is Government sett, known by a number of other names including Universal, 42nd, and most commonly as Black Watch. It is a military tartan without ties to a specific clan. The name Black Watch has its origins in the British military unit of the same title, which was formed in the early 18th century to suppress blackmail against cattle theft, hence the name. The service dress, also called the "walking-out" dress, is a multi-purpose uniform equivalent to the business suit of civilian attire. It is the standard uniform worn when appearing in public. It is not as formal as a mess dress (formal evening uniform) or ceremonial dress (worn at parades and other functions), but is more formal than the base dress (worn during day-to-day activities in garrison) and operational dress (worn during combat and operations).
Fonctions : This is the service dress uniform of the Prince Edward Island Highlanders, a volunteer militia unit that existed from 1927 to 1945, when it was amalgamated with the Prince Edward Island Light Horse and became the Prince Edward Island Regiment.
