The epaulets on each shoulder consist of a red band with two white stripes and a brass button. Accompanying the jacket is a shako hat with a similar navy-blue, red and gold colour scheme. |
Commentaires : | The history of the Prince Edward Island Militia is a long one, dating to the period of the first French settlement of the region in 1720, when thirty soldiers protected the citizens of Port La Joie (present-day Charlottetown). In 1758, following the French surrender of the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia, the Island came under British control. The British passed the Militia Act in 1780, and by 1829 there were 5400 men in Prince Edward Island's volunteer militia. The militia was reorganized under the Canada Militia Act of 1875 and became known as the 82nd Queens County Provisional Battalion of Infantry. Since that time the militia underwent a number of name changes and played a significant role in many of the world's conflicts, include the Boer War, World Wars I and II, United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Middle East, Cyprus and Bosnia, and various NATO exercises. It is currently known as the Prince Edward Island Regiment. |
Fonctions : | This is a uniform and shako hat for the Prince Edward Island Volunteer Militia, ca. 1840. The triple-striped chevrons indicate that it was a sergeant's uniform. The shako hat would typically have sported a red plume above the brim. |
