Description : | Top of the blade curves slightly downward. Lateral sides of the axe is somewhat concave. Has an oval or tear drop shaped eye. Most probably this piece is blacksmith made. |
Commentaires : | According to the donor this piece was found where the Taxis River and Southwest Miramichi River (Boiestown, New Brunswick) meet. It was found underneath a tree. Other objects found nearby were ox shoes and horse shoes. Everett Black, a local woodsmen, told the donor that there used to be a blacksmith shop at this site. Visitors to the museum have indicated that this is often refered to a a "French trade axe". |
