Description : Black and white photo print with wide gold metallic coloured border around image. Image of Adelaide St. Dalhousie, New Brunswick.
Commentaires : This card appears to show Adelaide Street looking west from a point to the east of the intersection with Brunswick Street. The two houses just to the west of the intersection which are most prominent in the picture have both disappeared. The one on the right was torn down in the 1970s to make room for redevelopment. It was called the Poirier house. That story is too complex to include here, but it may be noted that the original intention was to construct a downtown shopping mall. Eventually, the land was used for a sports store which has since become an optomitrist's office. The one on the leftburned in the 1990s. At that point, it was occupied by Al Letourneau and family. This is an early card. It is postmarked 1910. At the time, companies that produced postcards were experimenting with new freedoms. Previously, the reverse of the card could be used only for the address. In this case, the back is divided with one part for correspondence and another for the address, but the address part is twice as wide as the other. On later cards, they are equal. As well, the words "Private Post Card" is included on the back to differentiate this from the government issue cards used for various official purposes.
Fonctions : This card is not included in Clarke, Postcards from Dalhousie, Dalhousie, 2008. The card was mailed rom Dalhousie by "Mrs. Dobinson" addressed to Ernest Long, richibucto. NB and bears a 1 cent stamp.
