Description : Amber coloured glass, square shaped bottle with a narrow neck and opening. Has a paper label on the front with the Peace Tower on it. The Peace Tower is embossed on three sides. There is a screw on cap.
Commentaires : This artefact is an interesting commemoration to our Canadian Diamond Jubilee celebration. The Peace Tower, was also known as The Tower of Victory and Peace. It is a focal bell and clock tower, situated in the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliament Building. It was designed by Jean-Omer Marchand and John A. Pearson. It was commissioned to commemorate the Armistice of 1918 and the sacrifice made by Canada during the First World War. The Peace Tower Carillon was inaugurated on July 1, 1927, the 60th Anniversary of Confederation. This inauguration ceremony was a major event and it also marked the first live coast to coast radio broadcast in Canada. The founder of Distillers Corporation, Samuel Bronfman (1889-1971) was born in Soroki, Bessarabia, then part of Imperial Russia. He migrated to Canada with his family at a young age. He founded the Distillers Corporation in Montreal in 1924, specializing in cheap whiskey. In 1928, Bronfman's Distillers Corporation purchased Joseph & Seagram & Sons of Waterloo, Ontario. The company is now know as Seagram Co. Ltd.
