Commentaires : | Charles B. Record, who had been in the furniture business, began, in 1857, to build the famous Record Foundry on what came to be known as Foundry Street because of the Record Foundry and Johnathan Weir's foundry across the street, built a few years later. The Record Foundry turned out its first casting in 1857, a piece for the new railway, the European and North American Railway. The Record Foundry began as a manufacturer of farm ploughs and other agricultural equipment and later expanded into the making of stoves and furnaces. During the First World War, the foundry turned out munitions as well as using part of its facilities for drills and administrative tasks. In 1919 the T. Eaton Company purchased a large part of the land to build their new distribution center and over the years additional lots of land were sold as Eaton's grew in the area. |
