| Description : | oil painting on beaverboard entitled martello tower signed t.j. carter, 1921 consisting of a grey, white and black fence with a red-roofed cottage to the immediate left and another cottage and white building to the right. the tower sits on a grassy knoll with blue and white flowers in the foreground and a white cloudy blue sky with flock of flying birds. there is a pathway which winds its way down to the main part of the city of saint john and harbour. (db 19911122). golda (marks) oatley (1892 93-1980 81) acquired this painting when she was in saint john travelling from england to woodstock, ontario or detroit michigan to join her husband. this painting was not displayed in the family home in detroit but stored in the attic. see research notes. |
