Description : | hand carved decoration, sliding covers top and bottom. (mhm). gum box made by abraham day. he died in the 1930s in his 70s. day lived day's landing on the st. john river in a house directly opposite carter's point (long reach). he built row boats, fished salmon and sturgeon, and was generally around the river all his life. the parke family knew of abraham day because they had a summer cottage near his home and they visited him every summer. this box was carved by day and given to his daughter alberta (nickname bertie) to give to her mother (abe's wife). bertie married medley parke.
