| Description : | a wood rule, graduated in 16s, consists of four 6 in. strips in boxwood, one is missing, hinged together in pairs, each pair connected by a brass knuckle-hinge so that all strips can be folded flat. the rule is hinged at the centre by what is known as a rule joint, this consists of a thin disk on the head of one strip and a forked disk at the head of the other. the thinner disk is held in this fork and is riveted to move smoothly but with sufficient friction to stay where set. |
