Commentaires : | Butter was a staple of domestic, rural life for a very long time. Speaking plainly it was a way of keeping all of the nutrients of dairy last far longer than milk ever could on its' own. Butter as well played a roll in preserving other foods. Potting for example used butter as a seal to preserve fish and other foods that naturally do not keep well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXh_VT5ygOY |
Fonctions : | A butter churn was used to create butter. Whole milk was poured into the churn and then was plunged with a handle or rocked. These motions caused the cream in the whole milk to whip up into globules of butter. The milk that was left over was known as butter milk and was either drunk or used for cooking. The globules of butter would be pressed into blocks of butter with a butter press. |
