Description : Wide based black pyramid shape stand desk phone receiver with external oak subset. The desk phone receiver is made by the Northern Electric.
Fonctions : From www.islandregister.com: This a "Uniphone" No. 5 desk stand made by Northern Electric, designed for manual service with an external magneto subset. Dating on the receiver and transmitter elements dates this phone at 1949. It is one of a series of Uniphones made by Northern Electric - a uniquely Canadian design, used by non-Bell Telephone Companies. This object is unique because it is not paired with a Northern Electric magneto subset but one made by rival company Stromberg Carlson therefore this telephone has likely been repaired. Stromberg-Carlson was a telecommunications equipment and electronics manufacturing company formed in 1894 as a partnership of Alfred Stromberg and Androv Carlson. Along with four other companies, it controlled the United States national supply of telephone equipment until after World War II. Stromberg Carlson had their own production in Toronto in the 1930s, which was located at 211-19 Geary Ave., near the intersection of Dufferin and Dupont. Northern Electric phones were manufactured from the 1920s to 1970s for the Canadian market. Northern Electric phones were made for the Canadian market by Northern Electric and Manufacturing under Bell Telephone Company of Canada; and were somewhat different to the American counter parts made by Western Electric. Northern Electric changed its name to Northern Telecom and is now known as Nortel.
