Description : A low wood pulpit or reading table, used as an entrance table in the Freeport Church. The top is probably elm; other parts are likely a mix of wood types (possibly cherry, ash etc.). Finished medium brown. Front of case has two side-by-side Gothic panels, whose "shoulders", end in a Gothic peak. Panels are composed of tongue and groove strips (approx. 6 cm wide) and each panel set at opposing diagonals, converging toward the peaks. Case sides have one such panel each. (A slanted top piece, approx 42 x 53 cm, once sat on the top surface, as indicated by peg holes. See Condition notes.) Inside the case at midsection is a shelf, a 2 cm slab of unfinished wood. No maker's mark. Circa 1880.
