Description : | A Standard Remington, four row, upwards strike typewriter. The steel frame of the typewriter has a black japanned finish. There are a series of 40 off-white keys (one broken off) on the front (numbers across the top, and letters below). There are also two shift keys, and a black space bar along the bottom. The carriage consists of a sliding steel frame with a brown (possibly Bakelite) roller in the centre. This frame moves along a large rod fixed to the back end of the typewriter and a smaller rod at the front. A wheel at the front of the carriage allows the carriage to easily roll back and forth. The carriage can be lifted up to reveal the ribbon and type keys. There is a curved metal lever on the right side of the carriage and when pushed up, releases the carriage and sends it back to the left side of the typewriter or allows the carriage to be moved and set to the appropriate margin. There is a red manufacturer's seal on the left side of the typewriter on top, and a gold seal on the right side. A metal scale is riveted to the front of the typewriter at the top in order to set the margins (0-60). A curved metal clip is located at the centre of the roller, which was used to hold the paper in place. The ribbon is threaded across the top of the typewriter and is rolled onto two wheels which are attached to the underside of the frame. The ribbon is dark burgundy and black in colour. The type keys are arranged around a circular opening in the centre of the frame. Width:38.7 cm, Depth: 40.4 cm ORIGINAL |
