Description : | A quilt made from old wool patches, it has patches of woven winter sheets. Many of the patches are original patterns woven on the old looms in this area. The quilt has a simple one-patch pattern with a central nine-piece section in lighter colours. The pieces are arranged somewhat symmetrically to form a central square surrounded by a diamond. It is pieced and joined to the back by machine. The layers are tied together with red wool at the corners of the blocks, rather than quilted. It has a thick wadding which seems to be old fabric in patches (a very hard twist wool, possibly handwoven). It has been more recently pieced and assembled with new padding. Quilt: 185 x 152 cm, Block: 15.5 x 15.5 cm ORIGINAL |
Commentaires : | The quilt came from the estate of Ben and Maggie Moyer of Bloomingdale, who originally lived in Rosedale. Their parents came from the Vineland area. |
