Description : | This is a set of five similar metal (possibly nickel-silver or other combination) tablespoons. Each spoon has a plain, slightly curved handle that is rounded at the end (Fiddle pattern). There is a raised scalloped design on the ends of the handles, on the back side (except for "e"). (a-d) have a curved shoulder, and a rounded and tapered shank. (e) has a curved shoulder and a plain, tapered shank. (a-b) have an elongated, egg-shaped bowl, while (c-e) have a more rounded, elongated bowl. (a-c, e) are silver in colour, while (d) is light brass in colour. The top part of the bowl on (c and e) is cut off and the top edge on (d) is damaged. "AFGHAN . F.W. SILVER" is stamped on the back side of (a), as well as, "A.S., star, W.E. Rd.". "ART SILVER" is stamped on the back side of (b), there are three maker's marks on the back side of (c) that read "A.S.& G.R. N.S" and five maker's marks on the back side of (d) that read "four symbols (difficult to distinguish) and A1". "T. BRADBURY & SONS. L? SHEFFIELD" is stamped on the back side of the handle of (e). Fonctions : | Afghan Silver is an alloy of copper, nickle and zinc, predominantly copper. It does not contain silver, although it was the metal base onto which silver could be electroplated. |
