Commentaires : This is one of a set of twenty-three photographs taken by sisters Mabel Gibson Schmidt and Eva Gibson. They were the grand-daughters of David Gibson (whose former home is the Gibson House Museum in North York, Ontario). According to information from the Gibson House newsletter, these photographs were in the collection of Eva Gibson (1879-1955), who was the granddaughter of David Gibson and third daughter of Peter Gibson. 'She never married and, together with her next younger sister Lina, remained at home to care for her aging parents. Consequently she was involved in occupations of a domestic nature, being a wonderful baker according to one of her nieces. She was a devoted Church worker and had a strong artistic bent. China-painting was one of her interests. In addition, however, she greatly enjoyed photography, taking pictures of family and neighbours, both locally and in places such as Winnipeg and Berlin (Kitchener) to which her married sisters moved. . . .' Eva's sister Mabel married dentist William Schmidt of Berlin, and some of the photographs in the collection were taken with her camera. All photographs 'Courtesy of the North York Historical Board.
