| Description : | Mahogany ballot box, consisting of box, lid, handle, 48 white balls and 45 black balls. Box is divided into two sections by means of a wooden partition across the centre. The lid is half the size of the top of the box, and slides back and forth in a groove 1 cm. from the top of the box. There is a round hole in the centre of the lid 2.5 cm. in dia., and into which the handle fits. There is also a hole 1.8 cm. in dia. in one end of the box. The 48 white balls appear to be porcelain. Some have a blueish cast. They vary in size from approx. 1 to 1.5 cm. dia. The composition of the 45 black balls is unknown. They appear to be made of or coated with a grimy black carbon-like substance that rubs off easily. They are generally smaller in size than the white balls, ranging from approx. .8 to 1.3 cm. in diameter. Height: 8.5 cm, Width and depth: 42 x 14 cm ORIGINAL |

| Fonctions : | The Canadian Order of Chosen Friends was an insurance society formed Mar. 28, 1887 in Hamilton. Changed their name to Reliable Life in 1937 and then to Reliable Life Insurance Co. in 1964. In 1971 they were sold to Old Reliable Life and are still operating under that name at 505 York Blvd., Hamilton, Ont. |
