Description : | Manually-operated vacuum cleaner consisting of a flattened-spherical vacuum chamber joined to a dust/air intake and filtration cannister, and to a dust collection cannister or tank. The vacuum chamber has two circular valves and a hand grip (for lifting). One side of the vacuum chamber has a decal (originally red with white and black lettering): AUTOMATIC VACUUM CLEANER/PATENT PENDING/MANUFACTURED BY/ONWARD MANUFACTURING CO./BERLIN CANADA. All the parts are mounted to a heavy steel base, at the handle end of which is a footpiece (where the person who pumps the machine would place his/her foot to keep the whole thing from shifting about). The vacuum cleaner was originally painted with silver-coloured paint. The dust/air filtration tank or chamber has an interior filtration cannister with felt(?) walls. The two collection cannisters are clamped together and stationary by an adjustable metal crosspiece with a butterfly nut on a threaded rod. The whole thing weighs about 35-40 pounds.
