Fonctions : The original mill of Sam J. Cherry was located in Preston, the site of the first grist mill in Waterloo County, built by John Erb in 1807. The Preston mill was operated by the Erb family until sold to Samuel John Cherry in 1879. It was also known as the Cambridge Roller Mills. Around 1916 (1916 Vernon's Directory), the Cherry business was taken over by Sam Cherry's sons (he died in 1917). The firm then was known as S.J. Cherry and Sons Ltd., although the family sold out to Morrow/Standard Milling Company (E.K. Morrow) in 1917. By 1970, the company was known as Cherry-Taylor Flour Mills, later Dover Flour Mills, the present (1997) owner of the mill on the Preston Site.
