| Description : | A cane-seated side chair, darkly painted and grained to simulate rosewood or mahogany. The front legs are turned. Box stretchers are found between the front and back legs, while double stretchers are found on the sides. The front stretcher has a ball and incised ring turning on the back posts near the seat. The back posts are chamfered in front. The crest rail and the seat front end in a slight roll. The centre rail is plain. |
| Fonctions : | The chair is from Upper Canada or the United States and has a Sheraton-style influence. Acquired by the Vice-President of The Township of Toronto Historical Foundation. A contemporary of George Hepplewhite, Thomas Sheraton gave his name to a stylistic period from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. The Neo-classical movement was heavily influenced by his _The Cabinet Dictionary_ and _The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book_.
