Description : Tin cake holder with lid, 9 inches high by 10 ½ inches in diameter. The tin is a circular shape, with a black painted exterior and unpainted interior. The word CAKE is emblazoned in gold letters on the front of the tin. The lid of the cake tin is attached by a hinge, and has a wire handle on the top.
Commentaires : This cake tin is considered a piece of Japan Ware. Japanned wares were made in imitation of Japanese lacquer pieces, the earlier of which were hand painted, while later they were usually stenciled. By the 19th century painted tinware was a thriving industry and many tins were japanned and stencilled, such as this one
