Description : This black and white photograph shows Terry Fox in action as he runs by Parliament Hill in Ottawa during his Marathon of Hope. Fox is wearing a white t-shirt that reads: "TERRY FOX MARATHON OF HOPE.
Fonctions : Fox was a good athlete when it was discovered in 1977 that he had osteogenic sarcoma. During treatment Terry conceived the idea for his Marathon of Hope, proposing to run across Canada, only having one good leg, to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research. He began his run on April 12,1980 in St. John's Nfld. and ended it on Sept.1, 1980 in Thunder Bay, Ont when cancer was discovered in his lungs. He had covered 5,373 km at a pace of nearly 40 km per day and raised $1.7 million. Thousands keep his dream alive by participating in the annual Terry Fox fund raising runs. The back of the photograph is inscribed: "Terry Fox". A green stamp on the back reads: "PROPERTY OF CANADA'S SPORTS HALL OF FAME - CANADIAN NATIONAL EXHIBITION - TORONTO".
