| Description : | Box was carved from one piece of wood; lid from another piece. Lighter coloured wood was inset in each side of the box and in the top of the lid. Information and poetry was printed on the lighter wood. |
| Commentaires : | Box made by Charles Low using a penknife while a state prisoner in Toronto Gaol, July, 1838. Charles Low was born in Lower Canada of Loyalist parents, was an ensign in the War of 1812, settled in Brock Township, and became an active reformer. He captained a company of rebels at Montgomery's Tavern, was arrested December 17, 1837, jailed in Toronto, sentenced to transportation for 14 years, and on July 13, 1838, was pardoned on providing sureties for good behaviour for three years.
