Commentaires : While the maker of this chair is unknown, it was built in Miramichi between c. 1810 and 1820. Ladder back chairs were one of three main types of Irish chairs designs common during the early 19th century, and shared many similarities with chairs found in Atlantic and Mediterranean cultures. Irish chairs, along with most Irish furniture, made during the 18th and 19th centuries were designed to accommodate the relatively small size of single-storey Irish homes. Irish home-owners had little floor space to work with and tailored their furniture accordingly, making sure it did not take up any unnecessary space.
