Description : | This seal oil flask was found in the mine long after it had been closed, and therefore, the flask is extremely rusted. Like the seal oil lamp that the seal oil flask was used with, the seal oil flask was also made of tin and has a concave bottom. Also, the seal oil flask measures 9.3 cms high and has a piece of wire attached to its top, so that it could be worn on the miner's belt. |
Commentaires : | This seal oil flask was found by one of the museum's current tour guides in the # 2 Mine on Bell Island. Since the seal oil lamps had a very small reservoir, each miner would carry extra oil in their belts in tin flasks like this one so they could refill their lamps throughout their 10 hour shift. |
Fonctions : | Carried by miners to hold additional oil for their lamps. |
