Description : This mining helmet is made of fibreglass and is brown in colour. The brim extends all around the base of the helmet, and a piece of plastic has been attached to the front of the helmet, with a metal band, so that a light source can be attached to the front. Inside the helmet are rubber and cotton straps, so the helmet can be worn without the helmet itself touching the miner's head.
Commentaires : This helmet, along with several other styles that were used in the Bell Island Mines, was donated Mr. Charles Bown. The choice of helmet was left up to each individual miner, but the full brim, when compared to the helmet with only a partial brim at the front, offered a little more protection from dripping water when a miner was working in wet areas.
Fonctions : Used by miners working in the mines on Bell Island starting in 1950.
