Description : | A tea pot with matching lid, part of an overall Limoges dinner set. The pot is white porcelain decorated with orange and pink Victorian floral motifs with gold trim around the bottom and top rims. The gold trim also runs along the spout and handle. Around the top (about 2 inches) the porcelain is a shade of peach. The handle has decorative work. The underside of the pot has the company mark which reads, _ELITE. S.M. Limoges France_. Beneath the word ELITE is a crest which has three symbols across the top with a crude drawing of a head underneath. S. and M. are on either side of the head. The lid (b) matches the pot in colour and design. The brim of the lid is the same peach colour as the top of the bowl. The rounded handle on top of the lid leans slightly to the side (creating the same shape as one of the side handles) and has gold trim. |
Fonctions : | The donor is the daughter of the late Richard J. Alton of Burlington. The Alton's were one of the founding families of the Village of Appleby and owned a garage at Walker's Line and Highway 5 from the 1930s-1980s. Limoges is a whiteware porcelain often decorated with Victorian motifs and gold trim produced by many different makers and often signed with a maker's mark and the Limoges, France mark. Limoges is a region in France where many antique porcelain pieces were produced at the turn of the 19th century. |
