Description : | Identified by J. Whitenect as the Robert G. Cann, steam freighter. These boats were known as coasters. Originally built for Hugh Cann & Son of Yarmouth in 1911, and named after his son, Robert Guest Cann. It was registered July 26,1911 and originally built for the Canso-Mulgrave route, to replace the John L Cann. In May of 1921, the steamer was placed on the Bay of Fundy route, and then went back to Canso in June. It was part of Hugh Canns assets which were sold to Ross-Playfair interests of Montreal in 1929. In 1930, the Robert G Cann was placed on the Bay of Fundy run permanently. The Robert Cann made the round trip between Yarmouth and Saint John on a twice-weekly basis during peak summer season and weekly in the off season, delivering freight and passengers to stops along the route. She was lost in the Bay of Fundy due to a fierce storm Feb.8, 1946. Twelve of the thirteen people who transferred to a lifeboat died of exposure before reaching shore on Digby Neck.
