Description : | Manuscript-biography of dr.j.anderson inc.book; Biography of Dr. James Anderson L.L.D.. Nine typed pages. He was born in 1739, at Hermiston, near Edinburgh. Died Oct. 15th 1808 at age 69. Acknowledged writer and publisher, the knowledge of Agriculture formed the chief occupation of his life. He was married twice. In 1776 to MissSeton of Mounie, with whom he had 13 children. After her death he married a Lady of Esleworth in 1801. Mrs. Benjamin OUtram was his daughter. The following is a list of books written and published by Dr. Anderson L.L.D.- 1776: Free Thoughts on the American contest.- 1777: Miscellaneous Observations on Planting and traing Timber Trees.- 1777: Observations on the means of Exciting a Spirit of National Industry.- 1777: An Inquiry into the nature of the Corn Law with a view to the new corn bill proposed for Scotland.- 1777: Essays relating to Agricultural and Rural Affairs.- 1779: An Inquiry in to the causes that have hith to retarded the advancement of Agriculture in Europe; with hints for removing the circumstances that have chieftly obstructed its progress.- 1782: The Interest of Great Britain with regard to her American Colony.- 1783: The true interest of Great Britain considered; or proposal for establishing the Northern British Fisheries.- 1785: An account of present state of the Hebrid & Western Coast of Scotland: being the substance of a report to the Lords of the Treasury.- 1789: Observations on Slavery: particularly with a view to its effect on the British Colonies in the West Indies.-1790: Papers drawn by him and Sir John Sinclair in reference to a report of a committee of the Higland Society on Shetland Wool.- 1791-94: The Bee: Consisting of essays and philosophic philological and miscellaneous.- 1792: Observations on the effects of the Coal Duties.- 1793: Thoughts on the privileges on power of Juries: with observations on the present state of the country with regard to credit.- 1793: Remarks on the poor laws in Scotland.- 1794: A general |
