Description : 0.75" velvet mandarin collar with 2.25" wide lace sewn on piping on top of collar and at seam. All seams are piped. Front of jacket has 8" to 9.5" wide band of velvet, comes down to points at lower edge and flares out like a peplum. 11 pearl buttons with hook and eye at neck. Jacket narrows at waist and flares out. Center seam in back. Velvet extends to piping on sleeve seam - 13.5" across, then narrows to 2.5" at waist. On the 'tail' 2 side pieces velvet are folded over. Sleeves are set in, no gathers; velvet cuff is 3 to 4.5" wide; 2 pearl buttons with silk tabs; 2.5" wide lace cuff hand sewn in. Lined with light brown cotton twill; no bones except in center front. Rest of stays removed Jacket has been let out. 1" facing of silk fabric all around hem and 'tail'. 2000.101.2.2 - skirt - waist 27"/68.5 cm; length 40"/102 cm; waistband made of light brown cotton 1" wide; same fabric insert gathered to waistband 3" wide. Muted polka dotted brown silk; set in pocket on right hand side is 6" deep. One velvet band, dark brown, 1.5" wide, hand sewn on is 13.5" up from the hem; 2 ruffles below band are 2.5" and 2.75" wide. Lower part is a 6" ruffle cut on the bias or off center. On each side there is an extension up above brown cotton. No insert of brown below back waist. Placket is on left, 13.5" deep. Skirt back gathered tightly. Velvet band on back is 4" up from hem, one ruffle in back at hem. Lined with light brown twill cotton; interlined at lower edge. (possibly a hoop in back). Pieced/darts on side. Several pieces of pink elastic that crisscross on inside to cover bustle and hold bustle.
Fonctions : Agnes Love married 9 June 1880 Rev William Dawson. Agnes born 5 July 1857, St John NB; Rev Wm Dawson born Bank of Fyvie, Scotland. He died 6 March 1940. Rev Dawson preached in Presbyterian Church, Upper Canard 1883-1895; Folly Village (now Glenholme) 1895-1910; MacLellans Brooke and MacLennans Mtn in Pictou Co. 1910-1922. Children Jack - Arts teacher. Dr. J. Arthur - Bio Prof, New York City. Dr Gordon - dentist. Agnes - teacher and music teacher. Annie - teacher.
