Description : 1.5" band with 4 rows of stitching. Visor is 11" long where it is joined to front of hat and 2" wide at center front with 6 rows of top stitching. Leather strap 1.5" x 0.25" attached to hat by small brass buttons at either end. Buttons have CANADA crown on top, maple leaf in center. Buckle, double lop and leather tab. Upper brim of hat is 1.75", 4 pieces of fabric with 4 metal eyelets - two on each side of the side seam. Crown is 10" diameter. Hat is not lined except for burlap on lower band and at the eyelets. At one time it probably had a leather lined band. Hat was stiffened with piece of cardboard cut from ABC detergent. *Reg wore the uniform for Barber shoppers performances.
Fonctions : Belonged to Doris Foley's father, Frank Hamilton Palmer. Born in 1891 Welsford, son of Richmond and Amanda (Boridon) Palmer. He enlisted in Canadian Army in 1914, trained at the Halifax Armour and Aldershot in Kentville. He was sent to England in Sept. 1914 on board "The Olympic". Because of a wounded hand he was unable to do active service. he was discharged from the military police in London in 1919 and returned to Canada bringing his bridge of 2 years, Matilda Anne Evans of London. Together they operated the family farm until retirement in 1948. They were survived by their son Norman, Welsford; and daughters Doris and Verna (Mrs Rodireck Smiley, Welsford. Frank Palmer died in Berwick 1972, was buried there from the Baptist Church with full military honours.
