Commentaires : Items belonged to the donor's grandmother Elizabeth Maude Toye. Her father was Captain William Toye of Gaspereau, captain of the vessel Bessie North. The souvenir silks were passed through the family ending up in the quilting supplies of the donor's wife. George Travis and his wife lived in a cottage at Porter's Point from 1954 to 2018.
Fonctions : The practise of inserting advertising in tobacco products began about 1870 and continued into the first decades of the 20th century. The free silk inserts came with tobacco products and became known as Tobacciana collectibles. These silks were often made into quilts and related quilted items.
