Description : A carbon copy of a three page typewritten letter from the Credit Valley Dramatic Society (C.V.D.S.) to a Mr. Jackson dated May 23, 1952, Port Credit, Ontario. This letter is explaining to Mr. Jackson why the C.V.D.S. was formed and why they would no longer be using the church facilities and church name as part of their Little Theatre efforts. No signature is included with the letter although the initials SD are on the last page.
Fonctions : The Credit Valley Dramatic Society (CVDS) started in 1952. Before that it operated as the St. Andrew's Dramatic Society and was in operation for a number of years. The society was founded by Dr. John Cloke a local Port Credit dentist. A number of dramatic groups were established in Port Credit including one at Trinity Church and another in Port Credit Highschool; there are also records in old newspapers of a Port Credit Operatic and Dramatic Society but it is unsure if this was the same group that would later evolve to the CVDS. Meetings and performances of the society were held at Clarke Hall as was as the Port Credit Council Chambers. Performances of this group were advertised as late as 2000 but it doesn't appear that the group is in existence now. This letter provides reasons why the C.V.D.S. would no longer be using church facilities at St. Andrews Church. At the time of the letter the drama group was in negotiation to become allied with the Port Credit Recreation Commission in order to access free use of Clarke Hall as well receive Government assistance.
