Description : | Round blue Meat Ration Tokens. There is a 5mm diameter hole in the centre. Tokens are made of heavy cardboard and engraved on each side with the words: "Canada, Meat, Viande, Ration". (1) One hundred and eight tokens threaded through their centre holes onto a knotted string. (2) Seventeen tokens threaded through thin centre holes onto a knotted string. |
Fonctions : | These navy blue cardboard tokens were issued to Canadians during World War II. They were issued because of food shortages for such items as tea and sugar that were imported from Europe. Meat was also an important commodity and was only exported to feed the troops fighting in the war. |
