| Description : | The book has a burgundy cover. There are sepia scrolls and drawings of a woman (mother nature?) are on the inside front and back covers. Attached to the inside front cover is a pamphlet listing the names and addresses of members of the 'Toronto Horticultural Society' with a note on the title page: 'This book is issued to the Members of the Society for year ending October 13st, 1919'. The title page of the book is adorned with pen and ink repetitive flower and leaf patter. The page opposite the title page shows a framed quotation: 'I will make a brief of it in my note book. Merry Wives of Windsor'. There is gold lettering on the spine (title, author, publisher) and decorative grille pattern interspersed with flowers. On the front cover, there is an engraving of 2.2cm square with the name of the publisher. Inside the front cover at the bottom proper left corner is written in pencil B1239.; Le livre comporte une couverture de couleur bourgogne. Des volutes de couleur sépia et des dessins de femme (dame nature?) figurent à l'intérieur des couvertures recto et verso. Une brochure où figure la liste de noms et d'adresses des membres de la Société d'horticulture de Toronto, est attachée à la page titre. Une note sur la page titre indique en anglais : «Ce livre est décerné aux membres de la société pour la fin d'année, le 13 octobre 1919.» La page titre du livre est décorée d'un motif de fleurs et de feuilles au crayon et à l'encre. Une citation encadrée, sur la page opposée à la page titre, annonce : « J'en ferai une note dans mon carnet. Merry Wives of Windsor.» Un lettrage doré paraît sur le dos (titre, auteur et maison d'édition) ainsi qu'un motif à grille parsemé de fleurs. Une gravure d'un carré de 2,2 cm portant le nom de la maison d'édition figure sur la couverture de devant. Écrit au crayon, à l'intérieur de la page de couverture au coin en bas à gauche, est : «B1239.z» |
| Fonctions : | Items donated by Barbara Sayers Larson. Barbara Larson is the daughter of Annie Harris (1882-1986) and Beverly Sayers (1882-1976) and granddaughter of Arthur (1843-1932) and Mary (1859-1954) Harris. Barbara was born January 27, 1920 and was the youngest of three children. Barbara and her siblings, Geoffrey Sayers (1907-1997) and Dora Sayers Caro (1915-2004) donated Benares to the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 1969 after inheriting it from their aunt, Naomi Harris (1883-1968). Many of the items donated by Barbara originally belonged to her mother or Aunt Naomi and came from Benares. Barbara lived in a log cabin originally given to her by her grandparents at 1723 Birchwood Drive. She still maintains a close tie with Benares and is now living in Kelowna, British Columbia, with her daughter."; Les articles sont un don de Barbara Sayers Larson.
