Numéro d'accession : BR2011.6.34
Date de début de production : 1950
Description : A copy of the Port Credit Weekly, celebrating 100 years of the township of Toronto from 1850 to 1950. The subscription is made out to "Herridge Mrs. G mar 51." on the top right hand corner. The paper discusses the changes that have occurred in the last 100 years in all the villages that made up the township of Toronto. It also celebrates current achievements.
Fonctions : The subscription to the Port Credit Weekly was for Eva Herridge the widow of George Herridge. Eva Dina Searle (1883-1954) grew up in England which is where she met her future husband George Herridge while he was serving there during WWI. After their wedding Eva and George moved back to Canada. They had one daughter Irene. Both George and his brother Robert purchased land near fifth line from Charles Herbert Stevenson to build houses. George died (likely from war related injuries) on December 26th 1922 before the house had been built. Eva borrowed money to finish the house though she did not live in it until 1948. Eva worked as a housekeeper to support herself and Irene. One summer while babysitting Irene met a gentleman by the name of Lisle Doherty while he was working at the Clarkson Store. They were married on June 12 1948. They lived with her mother in the house her parents had built on 5th line. Eva died on August 27th 1954. Lisle worked for the Good Year tire factory for 41 years, starting in the factory and moving up to the office. Irene and Lisle have two children and four grandchildren.
