| Description : | A plastic bobblehead doll of Hazel McCallion on a white circular base. The base is painted with red letters that reads: Mayor Hazel McCallion 2006. McCallion is wearing a navy blue long sleeved dress with a red and white ribbon representing the Order of Canada on her lapel. In her hands she is seen holding a globe that reads: Mississauga. It is also marked with the Civic Mark. |
| Fonctions : | This bobblehead was a prototype for a gift given to attendees of the Mayor's Gala in 2006. The donor, was a member of the organizing committee for the gala which ran for 25 years.;;Many bobblehead dolls of McCallion were made representing significant events within her public office career as well various hobbies that she enjoys. This particular one represents when she was awarded the Order of Canada in November of 2005. The globe represents her runner up placement for World Mayor that occurred that same year.;;The first Mayor's Gala was held in November 1987. It was created by City of Mississauga public affairs employees when the new Civic Centre was opened to showcase the building for use as a venue. The first two galas were held in a large tent on the public square while the Great Hall was used for dancing.;;Over its 25 year history, the gala raised $4 million dollars for arts, culture and heritage in Mississauga including raising funds for the development of the Living Arts Centre which became the final home of the gala.;;During the 25th Annual Mayor's Gala, Mayor Hazel McCallion announced that the 2011 event would be the last. In making the announcement, she said:;;"Since the Gala's inception, this premier social event has raised over $4 million dollars for arts, culture and heritage initiatives in our community and for that I am extremely proud. This event has had a great run. Twenty five years of wonderful memories. The Mayor's Gala achieved it's incredible success because of you, our patrons, volunteers and sponsors. I will be forever grateful for your support. |
