Description : | A postcard. The artwork is a black and white photo of a herd of bison. The sky is printed in blue. On the reverse, there is a green 1 cent Edward VII stamp. The card is postmarked: Arden Manitoba, Dec 20 1905. It is addressed to "Miss L. Harris, 71 St. George St., Toronto Ontario". Handwritten in blue ink: "Merry Xmas + Happy New Year, G. H. Chante ". |
Fonctions : | Postcard was sent to Lucy Harris in 1905 from a friend identifed as G.H. Chante (?) was was living in Arden, Manitoba. Lucy Letitia Harris (1844-1925) was the daughter of Captain James B. (1797-1884) and Elizabeth Harris (n‚e Molony) (1806-1884), and sister of Arthur. She lived at Benares until a series of inheritances in the 1880's allowed her to move to Toronto in a trendy neighbourhood with her sister Elizabeth (Bessie). Lucy loved antiques and helped organize a club for women interested in china and was a member of the Toronto Horticultural Society. |
