| Description : | A book entitled _The Royal Gardeners: King George VI and his Queen_, by W. E. Shewell-Cooper. It was published by Cassell and Company Ltd., London. (a-b) A green linen bound book of 66 pages with a book jacket featuring King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) beside a rose garden at Balmoral. The book contains four colour photos and eighty-seven black and white photos. (c ) Inside the book is a gift card, which has a Christmas scene, and the words 'Greetings'. On the back, 'Ann, with much love from Mollie' is handwritten. (d) Also, there is a postcard with a nativity scene. On the reverse side is printed 'Holy Night: Beautiful hand carved manger in a Florida Church'. The colour photograph is by H. W. Hannau. Also on the back: 'Natural colour Publishers, 605 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach, Fla, Phone 58-7428'. Handwritten on the postcard is 'Best wishes for a Merry Christmas, love from Kathleen Bayley'. |
| Fonctions : | Items donated by Barbara Sayers Larson. Barbara Larson is the daughter of Annie Harris (1882-1986) and Beverly Sayers (1882-1976) and granddaughter of Arthur (1843-1932) and Mary (1859-1954) Harris. Barbara was born January 27, 1920 and was the youngest of three children. Barbara and her siblings, Geoffrey Sayers (1907-1997) and Dora Sayers Caro (1915-2004) donated Benares to the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 1969 after inheriting it from their aunt, Naomi Harris (1883-1968). Many of the items donated by Barbara originally belonged to her mother or Aunt Naomi and came from Benares. Barbara lived in a log cabin originally given to her mother by her grandparents at 1723 Birchwood Drive. She still maintains a close tie with Benares and is now living in Kelowna, British Columbia, with her daughter.; Les articles sont un don de Barbara Sayers Larson.
