| Description : | The Parasol has a wooden shaft and handle. The handle is a natural branch. The canopy is a cream fabric (silk?) with purple lilac flowers at the base. There is a climbing leaf pattern and purple ribbon pattern at the top. At the base of the canopy there is a change in woven texture, giving the edge a 'satin' look. The arms of the canopy are jointed metal (brass?). There is a metal button on the end of the arm. And two decorative tassels adorn the handle. Manufacturer's mark reads: 'Paragon' and 'S. Fox and Co. Limited'.";" Ombrelle avec manche et poignée en bois. La poignée est formée d'une branche naturelle. L' ombrelle, faite de tissu (soie?) de couleur crème avec des lilas mauves autour de la base. Sur le dessus, il y a un motif de feuilles grimpantes et de ruban mauve. À la base de l'ombrelle, la trame change ce qui donne au rebord une apparence satinée. Les rainures de l'ombrelle sont des tiges de métal (laiton?) articulées. Un bouton métallique se trouve au bout du manche. Deux glands décorent la poignée. La marque du fabricant indique : «Paragon» et «S. Fox and Co. Limited». |

Barbara Larson is the daughter of Annie Harris (1882-1986) and Beverly Sayers (1882-1976) and granddaughter of Arthur (1843-1932) and Mary (1859-1954) Harris. Barbara was born January 27, 1920 and was the youngest of three children. Barbara and her siblings, Geoffrey Sayers (1907-1997) and Dora Sayers Caro (1915-) donated Benares to the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 1969 after inheriting it from their aunt, Naomi Harris (1883-1968). Many of the items donated by Barbara originally belonged to her mother or Aunt Naomi and came from Benares. Barbara lived in a log cabin originally given to her by her grandparents at 1723 Birchwood Drive. She still maintains a close tie with Benares and is now living in Kelowna, British Columbia, with her daughter.";" Les articles sont un don de Barbara Sayers Larson. Barbara maintient un lien avec Benares et habite aujourd'hui avec sa fille à Kelowna, Colombie-Britannique. |
