Description : The brass school lapel pin has red and blue enamelled parts. The pin is a shield topped with a crown shape made of a mitre with ribbons on each side. Around the base of the shield is a banner with the letters "COLLSSTRINITATISAP Toronto". The shield is divided lengthwise with the proper right enamelled in red with gold crossed keys quartering the space. In the top quarter is a crown, in the bottom, a dove, and in the remaining quarters the letter "O" in each. The proper left half of the shield is enamelled blue with a gold-coloured deer. The reverse has "Wa" in script with "WANLESS & CO." in capital letters.
Fonctions : Pin belonged to Betty Sayers who attended the Bishop Strachan School in Toronto. Helen Elizabeth 'Betty' Sayers (Aug 20 1898- July 1938) was sister to Beverly and Egerton Sayers. She never married and died from cancer later in life. She was the only daughter of Catherine Ellen Draper and Charles Kirkpatrick Sayers.The Bishop Strachan School or BSS opened its doors in 1867 after a special committee was appointed by the Synod of Toronto to consider the higher education of girls. The school was first located in Pinehurst and was run by a small group of clerics and members of the community. The school still operated today at Lonsdale Road in Toronto and is Canada's oldest day and boarding school for girls.(Information obtained from www.bss.on.ca/story/history). The jewellry maker 'Wanless' was established by John Wanless who emigrated from Scotland. The firm, John Wanless & Co. firm was located in the old Simpson block in Toronto.
