Fonctions : On August 2nd, 1805 a treaty was signed by the British Crown and the Mississauga Indians for the purchase of over 74,000 acres of land. This land was then surveyed in 1806 and became Toronto Township and was opened for settlement. This was known as the 'First Purchase' and the 'Old Survey'. (Information provided by Heritage Mississauga). At this time the Mississauga Indians still kept a 1 mile strip of land around the Credit River and it remained as the Credit Indian Reserve.
