Fonctions : | Booklet/pamphlet kept by former Orenda employee, James Herbert Scott (d. 2012). Bert, originally from Ireland, worked for the aviation company Short Brothers as an apprentice before immigrating to Canada during the 1940s. He would go on to write the qualification examinations of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario to become a Mechanical Engineer in 1952. He was later hired by Avro Canada and worked as a Test Engineer in which he led the design team for Orenda's test facility in Malton which was built in 1954. After the Diefenbaker Government cancelled the development of the CF-105 Avro Arrow, Bert was offered a job at NASA in the space program but declined. He joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and began work with them in the Nuclear Power Plant Division in the Sheridan Park Research Centre in Mississauga. He worked in the Development Laboratory and later transferred to Procurement. |
