Description : | A pair of ladies black peau de soie fancy shoes with silver finished T-strap and buckle. The heel is slightly curved, leather-covered wood: black on the back and sides, and silver on the front. The heel cap is thick leather, fastened with 10 tiny nails on the left shoe and 9 on the right. The toe is a rounded point. The base of the T-strap is a diamond shape. The upper edge of the vamp is trimmed in a silver band which widens at both ends where it meets the edge of the sole. The right shoe's insole is printed in gold ink at the heel "PATENTED 1934". Embroidered on a black and blue cloth label in silver white thread (stitched on the insole) is: "THE M. LOCKE SHOE - DESIGNED AND APPROVED BY DR. M. W. LOCKE - WILLIAMSBURG, ONT. CANADA - TRADE MARK". The left shoe has printed in gold ink on the insole at the heel: "M. W. Locke - No. 5". Both shoes have printed in blue ink on the inner surface of outer side "7 3A 752066 2 N". |
Fonctions : | Dr. Mahlon William Locke was a Canadian physician who introduced an unusual therapy during the 1930s. He developed the process of foot manipulation in which he called toe-twisting,' This therapy was used to relieve cases of arthritis as well as a variety of related afflictions. He was quite popular for this practice and many people would travel to his clinic in Williamsburg, Ontario. A Ontario Heritage Foundation (now Ontario Heritage Trust) plaque is found in Williamsburg to commemorate Dr. Locke.
