Description : A turf edger with an iron curved blade and wooden handle with an iron grip handle. The curved iron blade is thin and is attached to the collar of the tool that wraps around the wooden handle; one round nail attaches the iron head to the handle. The long wooden handle is made out of turned wood and is marked with 'Harris', hand printed with black ink. The top of the handle has a iron and wood grip that is shaped of a half circle. The wood in this grip is a thick horizontal rod, partially covered in black electrical tape. The metal part of the handle has remnants of red paint on it.
Fonctions : This tool is used to separate lawns from walkways or paved surfaces and create a clean or neat appearance. Manual ones, like this one, are still sold today but there are a variety of gas or electric powered ones on the market. Turf edger used by Harris family to help maintain the grounds of the Benares property. Arthur did perform some of the gardening tasks around Benares but also employed some men to help out. The property was used for a wide variety of subsistence and commercial crop farming activities but there were several gardens surrounding the house. Arthur's wife Mary, enjoyed gardening and helped take care of the rock garden that is still present today.
