Description : | A small booklet with coloured front and back pages printed in mostly black text. The cover is black and white with a picture of Larry Whellpon using a height gauge during manufacture of gas turbine test rig.;;Inside the booklet include the following content:;-Sailing the Wind News of Industry;-Departmental News;-Pot Pouri;-Sport;-Scenes from Press Day;;The back has 'Meet the Group' and 'Notices' titles highlighted n orange. There is also a cartoon strip found on the back. |
Fonctions : | Newspaper kept by former Orenda employee, James Herbert Scott (d. 2012). Bert, originally from Ireland, worked for the aviation company Short Brothers as an apprentice before immigrating to Canada during the 1940s. He would go on to write the qualification examinations of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario to become a Mechanical Engineer in 1952. He was later hired by Avro Canada and worked as a Test Engineer in which he led the design team for Orenda's test facility in Malton which was built in 1954. After the Diefenbaker Government cancelled the development of the CF-105 Avro Arrow, Bert was offered a job at NASA in the space program but declined. He joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and began work with them in the Nuclear Power Plant Division in the Sheridan Park Research Centre in Mississauga. He worked in the Development Laboratory and later transferred to Procurement. |
