| Description : | A sepia toned photograph of a woman and two young girls. The woman, Annie Sayers, is wearing a black dress with black shoes. The dress has three quarter length bell sleeves and is decorated with beads throughout. The two girls are both wearing white dresses that look to have a white sash around their waists. Dora Sayers is seated while her younger sister Barbara is standing. They are also wearing white knee socks and white shoes. All three are on top of a fabric covered bench while the youngest girl is standing and holding a teddy bear. The photograph is inside a white folder that has pressed borders surrounding the photograph. Signed on the bottom right hand corner is the name 'Kennedy' (?). |
| Fonctions : | Photograph of Annie Sayers with her two daughters. Most likely taken during the mid-1920s.;;Annie (1882-1986) was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Mary Harris and grew up in the family home, Benares, in Clarkson. She was educated at home by a governess and later attended Miss Dupont's School for Ladies in Toronto. Annie married Beverly Sayers in 1906, and together they built a house on the southern part of the Benares Estate, given to them by Annie's parents. Together they had three children: Geoffrey, Dora and Barbara. They lived at homes Skiddo, The Pines and the Log Bungalow. Dora grew up and eventually moved out of the country to pursue her acting career while Barbara stayed in the area before retiring to be close to her daughter in British Columbia.;;The Teddy bear shown here originally belonged to the girl's older brother Geoffrey and was given to all of Annie's children. The bear now is permanently at home at Benares as part of the Museums of Mississauga collection. |
