Description : Two small crystal wine glasses with 'Ogee' shaped bowls. The cut glass stems have six panels flaring at the top to form six fan-shaped flares at the base of the bowls. The solid conical feet have a rounded step where the facets of the stem meet the base with slightly rounded flares.
Fonctions : The Drinking glass is undoubtedly an item that does enhance the efficiency and comfort of our daily lives. The beginning of this simple invention most likely began during 3000 BC, in the Middle East. It was a challenge to create glass, as it was considered a rare commodity at that time and was definitely not a regular item in an average kitchen, during that era. Raw materials were usually melted in small furnaces, barely even reaching the necessary temperature to create glass. From then, the manufacturing for the drinking glass was made more efficiently, due to the use of soda lime. Venice, Italy, later took the idea and enhanced its complexity. Glasses only came, as available as it is today, in the public, due to the near revolutionary developments in glass manufacturing that happened in the 1890's.
