| Description : | .1) Four sheets of heat sensitive photocopy paper, stapled at the top proper right, consisting of a handwritten account of the wedding of Mary Jarvis daughter of Frederic Starr Jarvis to Henry Skynner, son of Captain Skynner of the Anchorage. The letter is written by F.S. Jarvis, and is addressed to Marion, his daughter. The script is average in size, clear, readily decipherable. The letter originated at Brunswick Farm and was dated Saturday, 1st November 1851 and is signed F.S. Jarvis..2) Single spaced typewritten transcript of 2005.1.164.1 on two sheets of white office paper, which are stapled at top proper right. A heading which described the letter as an account of the wedding of Mary Jarvis and gives the location of Brunswick Farm as: _on the north side of Lake Shore Road, between Fifth Line & the Town Line". A transcription error which made the bride, the daughter of 'Henry' Jarvis is corrected in blue ink to: "Frederic" at the top of the first sheet. .3) A double spaced typewritten transcript of 2005.1.164.1 plus heading on four sheets of white office paper. The reverse of sheets 1 and 2 are CMI's Weekly Comments August 20, 1976: commentary and graphs regarding stock market performance. The reverse of sheet 3 is letterhead of Geoffrey H. Sayers, The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company. The reverse of sheet 4 is letterhead for Geoffrey H. Sayers, The Employers' Liability Assurance Corporation Limited.4) A single spaced typewritten transcript of 2005.1.164.1 on 3 sheets of white office paper stapled at the top proper right. The paper is watermarked "Service. Made in Canada". There is a spelling correction hand written in blue ink on the first sheet where the name "Louise" is corrected to: "Louisa". A transcription error in the date gives it Nov. 1, 1951 and should read 1851. |
| Fonctions : | The item is part of a box of original papers, letters, transcripts, and research notes compiled and transcribed by Geoffrey and Kathleen Sayers mostly from 1970-1975. Frederick Starr Jarvis ( 1786-1852) was born in New Brunswick and moved with his family to York in 1809. He received a land grant and performed his settlement duties ( in Merigold's Point) before joining the military (1812-1814). Frederick married Susan Merigold of Merigold's Point (Clarkson) and they had 12 children. Frederick was appointed Gentleman-Usher of the Black Rod in 1841 which was a prestigious appointment. He died from heart disease in 1852 and is buried in St. Peter's Cemetery. Henry Skynner (1825-?) married Mary Merigold Jarvis (1828-1861) on October 30th, 1851. Frederick's letter described the ceremony, the poor weather which forced many of the guest to stay at Brunswick Farm ( his home) and The Anchorage ( home of the late Commander Skynner), and the wedding breakfast. Captain Harris and Bessie Harris of Benares attended this wedding. Henry's sister, Caroline Skynner, married Mary's brother, Frederick William Jarvis in 1857. |
